We often commission specialist skills for projects and one of those is illustration. illustrator uses creative skills in art and design to communicate a story, message or idea adjusting the mood and style of images accordingly. If it's a character and cartoon stye required then we work with Clive Wakfer. For technical types of illustration, whether medical, industrial or product related, we tend to use Dave Russell.
We've used numerous photographers over the years and two we can really recommend are David Griffen (Cornwall) and Richard Wadey (London). David Griffen is an Australian photographer who has made Cornwall his home and after five years of intensive work, has gained a reputation for exciting and innovative photography. His specialities are food, portrait and interior photography. Richard is a London based creative image maker shooting lifestyle, landscapes and reportage portraits.Copywriting especially for online content is another specialist skill we outsource. While based in London, Christopher James has worked on many advertising campaigns for blue chip clients and is now busy writing ebooks as well.
Printing has come a long way in the past fifteen years and you now have a choice between Digital and Lithographic. Our choice based on quality and reliability for both types of printing are Headland Printers based in Penzance, Cornwall.
The key differences between digital and litho are digital is more suitable for shorter runs and litho for longer runs. With digital you can print one complete copy of your file at a time whereas litho requires a 'run' of copies to make the project cost effective.
Digital is also quicker whereas litho is more complex and involves set up and machine time costs. Digital machines are generally more limited in the types of stock onto which they can print although the ranges are increasing all the time. It is still safe to say however that the ranges of stock for litho presses are still wider and generally cheaper if selecting a specialist stock.
Litho produces the best quality but digital quality is now good enough so that to the average layman, and in most cases, it's hard for them to tell the difference.
The use of graduated tints, large solid blocks of colour, metallic Inks and UV varnishing would however tend to lead to litho as being the preferred process.
Depending on the business sector you're in, vehicle graphics and livery may be an essential part of your corporate identity or can be otherwise known as your 'visual branding'. Mill Signs, part of the Mill Auto group and based in Pool near Redruth have just completed a project for us leaving us with one very happy customer.
Over the years we've completed projects for a wide range of interesting industries and one of those is data, audio and visual networking. If this is your cup of tea, it's a fascinating world and can be quite complex. It seems to me that an essential ingredient is a liberal dose of the black arts and one company that has mastered these black arts is Aardvark who sometimes teams up with another client of ours, Ray Christophers Electrical for the infrastructure installation. I have commissioned both of these companies for personal use and can highly recommend both.
There's also an easier range of smart networking kits available by another one of our clients, Singlepoint Networks. This range of cables and faceplates assumes you have no prior knowledge of the black arts and is suitable for DIY. Paul is working on site content so a new website should be coming soon!
And if you need a speedy parcel and courier delivery service with great personal service, then you can't beat Redruth company Lamorna Express who go that extra mile (excuse the pun) with a great range of delivery services.
